October 30th, 2019 by Aliyah

Be smart, play brilliant, and discover how to play craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps evolved from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s soldiers played Hazard during a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the castle’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when driven away by the English, the French headed south and located safety in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which is gotten from the name of the losing toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and across the nation. Many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the modern craps setup. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so players could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he created the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
