Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps developed from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, although Hazard is said to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s believed that Sir William’s knights played Hazard through a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the castle’s name.
Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when driven away by the English, the French headed down south and located sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is acquired from the name of the losing throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi scows and across the nation. A great many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the modern craps layout. He appended the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win. Later, he developed the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
