Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps formed from the ancient English game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s knights played Hazard amid a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when driven away by the British, the French headed down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is gotten from the name of the losing toss of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and all over the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the modern craps layout. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose.
