Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps evolved from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is presumed that Sir William’s knights played Hazard amid a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when exiled by the English, the French relocated down south and discovered refuge in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is derived from the name of the non-winning throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the nation. A great many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn built the current craps layout. He put in place the Do not Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he invented the spaces for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
